Choices Markets and Childhood Obesity (CKNW 980)

According to The World Health Organization, an estimated 70 million children will be overweight and obese by 2025.  The Childhood Obesity Foundation states that being overweight or obese as a child increases the risk that the child will not only grow into an obese or overweight adult, but also increases their risk of developing diabetes and heart disease at young ages.

Shannon Smith, registered dietician at Choices Markets, talks to Jill Bennett at CKNW about why cooking is one of the ways we can reduce the number of children impacted by this obesity epidemic and provide tips to help kids get involved in their nutrition choices and lifestyle habits.  (ie/bring children grocery shopping and let them choose a new fruit or vegetable for the week).

Purchase a copy of Choices Markets' book: "How to Grow a Healthy Kid", an easy-read that offers advice on healthy eating before, during and after pregnancy and delivers a variety of recipes and meal ideas for kids with adventurous and particular taste buds.
